Anglian Water has completed the first phase of an installation programme of electric vehicle chargers across six of its sites, with more to be added in the near future to accommodate staff, visitors and its fleet.
The water company selected a range of 10 Rolec EV charging units to be deployed across its locations. This is set to double very soon under a second wave of installations at the same sites.
The slower 7.2kW single phase chargers will be used by staff and visitors spending longer periods at the sites, while the 22kW three phase chargers will be used to top up fleet vans needed to return to the roads quickly.
The charging speeds have also been dictated by the available power supply of each site, with single phase or lower supply locations receiving slower chargers and a load management system where needed. This is controlled by software which shares the available power across the chargers when they are in use.
Anglian Water’s head of fleet services Stewart Lightbody said: “We are very pleased to announce this partnership with Rolec. We can now provide our fleet, and staff, with an affordable electric vehicle charging point to keep emissions as low as we possibly can. As a business, we’re committed to reducing our carbon emissions and this is another fantastic example.”
The SecuriCharge, AutoCharge and Quantum EV charging units provide various payment tariffs depending on the user. Staff are placed into one user group with their own tariff, while visitors to the site pay another; fleet drivers use the units free of charge.
These tariffs are controlled directly by Anglian Water via the EV Charge Online management system, with the user simply paying for the charge advertised on the charging point or app
Rolec EV’s Business Development Manager, Frankie Mellon, said: “We are delighted to be working with Anglian Water on this EV charging project across their many UK locations. It is pleasing to see one of the UK’s leading utility providers encouraging its employees and visitors to drive EVs.
“The EV charging points Anglian Water chose to install all feature our EV Charge Online management system, which is able to provide the ideal bespoke solution in order to meet all of the project’s requirements.”
