Arsenal Football Club has partnered with solar asset holder and utility firm Octopus Energy in a move which it claims will bolster its environmental sustainability.
Octopus Energy is to become the Premier League club’s official energy partner in the UK, and the firm is to work on a “long-term plan” to develop renewable energy supplies for the club, including possible developments at the Emirates Stadium.
The stadium is to be powered using renewable power derived from Octopus’ solar assets, and Arsenal supporters will be offered the same tariff. Those that choose to join the tariff will be offered various benefits by the club, including VIP tours and signed merchandise.
Vinai Venkatesham, chief commercial officer at Arsenal Football Club, said the agreement was a “positive step” towards its environmental sustainability ambitions.
“We will be working closely with them to develop renewable power supplies, as well as providing special offers for Arsenal fans in the UK. We look forward to supporting Octopus Energy in the growth of their business.”
And Greg Jackson, founder of Octopus Energy, said that the deal was a “massive step” for the company.
We are passionate that greener energy is critical to the future of our planet, and for many people can be cheaper than with big energy companies. Arsenal and Octopus are both leaders in their fields, and we look forward to working closely together to take this message to their fans and the wider football audience.”
