UK pharmacy Boots has taken its maiden steps in the EV space, absorbing five electric vans into its fleet.
The Renault Kangoo iVans will be used to deliver prescriptions to customers in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Charging stations at Boots’ Beeston site – where the vans will run from – have gone in with the support of Nottingham City Transport’s Ultra Low Emission Vehicle Scheme
The pharmacy plans to make the switch to EVs in other locations should the pilot prove successful.
The vans form part of Boots’ commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations. Each van is also fitted with Lightfoot Technology, a real-time engine analysis system providing live, in-cab coaching for improving fuel efficiency and safety.
Eddie Storr, head of supply chain pharmacy at Boots UK, said: “Running over 9,500 routes a week with a van fleet of 900, we are continually looking at ways to improve both the efficiency of our service and its environmental impact.
“Over the last six months, we have achieved significant mileage reductions through better route planning and the next step on our journey is to reduce our carbon footprint by introducing zero emission delivery vehicles,” he continued.
