Independent energy supplier Bulb has confirmed it is to launch into three new markets, marking its first international expansion.
The supplier, which now boasts a customer base in excess of 1.3 million in the UK, today confirmed that it is to expand into France, Spain and Texas in a bid to boost its international presence.
Bulb founder Hayden Wood confirmed the news during a speech at Startup Grind, stating that a ‘friends and family’ launch would get underway later this year prior to a full launch in early 2020.
The firm said it had selected those three markets intentionally due to their respective statuses as deregulated markets and “substantial renewable generation”, with clean power supply amongst its core tenets.
More specific details surrounding the firm’s new launches, including details of their renewable energy supply and tariffs, are to be announced at a later date.
Wood added: “When we started Bulb in the UK, we saw the same story at all the big providers – poor service, high tariffs, inefficiency and little support for renewables. We’re excited to give the people of France, Spain and Texas a better choice about where they get their energy from.”
Bulb has garnered a reputation in the UK supply market for being amongst the fastest movers in the supply space. In December 2018, the company disclosed that it had seen its customer numbers soar to 870,000, while simultaneously reporting a widening loss.
News that Bulb’s customer base now stands at some 1.3 million would amount to a near-50% increase in just six months, setting the company well on its way to its target of adding another million customers over the course of 2019.
Bulb has also sought to branch out into associated markets, partnering with EV firm EO Charging to supply its open-access EV charging network with clean power, while also trialling a solar export tariff with a select few customers.
