Bulb has launched a Smart Pay as You Go (PAYG) offering, in what it says is a first for UK customers.
This will provide prepayment members with increased flexibility to top up, letting them use an app to top up. They will also be able to gain insights into energy usage and efficiency for their 100% renewable electricity and 100% carbon neutral gas.
In particular, the app will allow customers to top-up without having to go to a PayPoint store, which has become increasingly important due to the coronavirus pandemic. By allowing members to top-up on the app, it will help to protect vulnerable members as well as making it easier to monitor usage.
The launch follows a successful beta trial over the past few months, and is now available to new and current members from today provided that they have a compatible smart meter.
Hayden Wood, co-founder and CEO of Bulb, said the company was developing technologies to help people “understand their energy usage more easily, allowing them to save money and cut carbon emissions”.
“I’m proud that we’re the first large energy supplier to offer a 100% green energy Smart Pay As You Go product. With this launch, our customers will be able to top up their energy via the Bulb app from the comfort of their own home, knowing they’re helping protect the planet at the same time.”
Bulb will continue to develop the solution so that in the future customers will be able to received advice about reducing usage and lowering bills, see energy usage over time and set automatic top-up payments.
Bulb is the UK’s fastest growing green energy supplier, having been founded in 2015 by two ex-energy industry employees it now as 1.7 million members. The company is continuing to expand, opening a new office in Brighton earlier in October and creating 30 new jobs.
At the end of September, Bulb moved into the US market for the first time, launching in Texas.
