Centrica is to provide electric vehicle (EV) charging installations for ABB UK as the latter looks to electrify its fleet by 2025.
This comes as part of a wider package to support the electrification, with Centrica to also offer aftersales services and infrastructure planning.
ABB Terra charging hardware is to be used exclusively for the project, with the chargers to be installed at the homes of ABB UK employees.
The rollout of the chargers is already underway and follows ABB UK finding that – with over 500 cars in its fleet – business mileage was the second highest contributor to its carbon emissions in 2019.
Jorge Pikunic, managing director of Centrica, said: “We are providing answers to the question of what happens when engineers, company car and delivery drivers need to charge their company vehicle at home, at the workplace or on the road.”
Centrica is working to electrify its own fleet, with a goal of completely transitioning from petrol and diesel by 2030. It put in the biggest commercial order for battery electric vehicles in the UK last year, ordering 1,000 all-electric Vivaro-e vans from Vauxhall.
It also signed a three-year framework with Alfen for the supply of EV chargers, which are initially being rolled out at the homes of British Gas engineers before being installed at the supplier’s premises and those of Centrica.
