OVO Energy has today revealed the creation of a new OVO Energy Board following its acquisition of SSE.
Stacey Cartwright has been appointed as the chair of the OVO Energy Board, having previously held the role of the deputy chair of the Harvey Nichols Group.
The OVO Energy Board has been set up as a separate Board for its UK retail business, OVO Energy, after the £500 million SSE acquisition in January 2020 and is in addition to the existing OVO Group Board.
It is to oversee the strategy of the retail business, enabling OVO to focus on accelerating progress to net zero carbon living and deliver its Plan Zero, the company said.
Plan Zero was unveiled in September 2019, with OVO committing to eliminating its customer’s household emissions and fit five million homes with flexible, clean energy technologies as part of the plan, along with other pledges.
Cartwright is to take up her position on the Board in June after a short transition period. Stephen Murphy, meanwhile, is to remain chair of the OVO Group Board.
Cartwright has also held the role of chief financial officer and executive vice president of Burberry Group and is currently on the Board of Directors at Savills, The Football Association, Genpact and AerCap. She has also been chief financial officer at EGG PLC and has spent over a decade at Granada.
“This is a business with an impressive track record of innovation and growth in its sector, and I look forward to continuing this journey with the strong leadership team,” Cartwright said.
Murphy praised her leadership and “extensive governance experience”, which he said would “greatly assist the team in integrating the Group’s activities in these challenging times”.
OVO announced the furlough of 3,400 staff at the start of April in response to the current pandemic, with smart meter installers and meter readers amongst those particularly affected.
