Engenie has set its sights on improving the electric vehicle (EV) charging experience with the appointment of a new CTO.
James Wehner is joining the company from McDonalds, where he was the Global Product Director and helped lead the rollout of the self-service kiosks in 70 countries.
It is this background in particular that he will bring to the EV charging network, helping to improve the user experience in an effort to encourage wider adoption of EVs.
Wehner said: “For mass adoption of EVs to become a reality, drivers must be at the heart of the transition and by ensuring a key part of their experience – charging – is smooth and seamless, Engenie promises to accelerate that transition.
“The fundamentals of exceptional customer experience are the same in any sector – it’s about putting the customer in control. After close to half a decade establishing one of the world’s most recognisable customer services tools, I’m excited to apply my skills to a sector where customer experience isn’t just good for business, but instrumental in saving the planet too.”
In March, Engenie signed a partnership with Good Energy to develop new business opportunities. Last year, it partnered with Allstar and GeniePoint in launching a new payment card, the One Electric Card. It was developed to allow businesses with fleets of electric vehicles to pay for charging across a multi-branded charging network.
Ian Johnston, CEO of Engenie said: “Poor user experience is a major barrier to widespread EV adoption. By revolutionising the way we charge on the go, EV charging networks will play an essential role in accelerating a clean transport future. James has already brought a fresh approach to improving the customer experience of EV charging and has a lot of exciting new ideas in the pipeline.”
Engenie is targeting the installation of over 2,000 chargers by 2024, which would double the number of rapid chargers in the UK.
