Fastend and MFG EV Power have been voted joint winners of Zap-Map’s new survey of electric vehicle (EV) drivers in the UK, which received responses from a record 4,300 Zap-Map users.
The ultra-rapid charging networks came out top of the rankings, based on driver satisfaction, with InstaVolt following in third.
The survey also examined the charging habits of EV drivers and found that although 84% of respondents owned a home charger, 90% continue to use public charging networks on a regular basis.
As an increasing number of long-range EVs are now available, the survey reported that EV charging hubs are being used more often, becoming the third most popular charging location following motorway service stations and supermarket car parks.
In conjunction with this rise, although Pod Point remains the most-used network, this year saw 41% of respondents use InstaVolt, followed closely by GRIDSERVE with 40% (a 29% increase from last year).
“As EV adoption accelerates and enters a more mainstream demographic, how EV drivers without a home charger go about charging their car will be a key question over the coming year and beyond” said Melanie Shufflebotham, co-founder & COO at Zap-Map.
“Although the survey currently shows that more than 80% currently have a home charger, the need for on-street and other local charging provision is only going to become more pressing.”
UK Power Networks echoed Shufflebotham’s urgency for more chargepoints throughout the UK in a recent announcement urging for more investments in EV chargepoints nationwide. This could help tackle poor chargepoint experience and help incentivise the uptake of EVs in the UK.
