In the year since GRIDSERVE acquired the Electric Highway, the number of charging sessions has tripled while the energy supply has quadrupled.
The average charge time on the network has also decreased, with this in line with the faster charging installed by GRIDSERVE, which began upgrading the network in March 2021.
Reliability on the network has also improved over the past year, with the network now having 99% uptime and a goal of raising this further.
Additionally, the electric vehicle (EV) charging network said that accessibility has improved, with contactless payment now ubiquitous across the network, having been previously unavailable at legacy chargers.
Each Electric Super Hub also includes at least one extra-wide accessible charging bay for every 6 EV charging spaces, while all 3 connection types (CCS, CHAdeMO and Type 2 for AC) are available across the network.
This full network includes the Electric Highway chargers, the Electric Super Hubs and Electric Forecourts.
Accessibility is becoming more of a focus of the EV charging industry, with several studies into the barriers to EV for disabled drivers in particular.
Current± took an in-depth look at how accessibility can be embedded in the EV charging rollout earlier this year.
Toddington Harper, founder and CEO of GRIDSERVE, said: “Whilst we have materially improved EV charging across the UK, we have only touched the surface in terms of delivering the full extent of our plans, and it remains our mission to continually improve our network to provide increasingly large numbers of EV drivers with the confidence that they can set off on any length of journey, to anywhere in the country, driving any type of EV, and have a better experience than making the same trip in a petrol or diesel vehicle.”
Over the past year, GRIDSERVE has upgraded over 160 charging locations with new chargers, delivering an additional 7 high power Electric Super Hubs across the motorway network, each of which features six to 12 350kW-capable chargers.
The EV charging company has also opened a new flagship Norwich Electric Forecourt, while additional sites are also under development and in construction.
The company’s findings come as it launches a new competition, with five drivers to win 1,000 miles of free charging across the entire network.
Drivers have to find GRIDSERVE birthday-wrapped chargers hidden across the network and submit an image on social media sites Twitter or Instagram, tagging GRIDSERVE and using the hashtag ‘#GSElectricHighwayBday’ to enter the draw.
