Sustainability measures supplier Kingspan has revealed that rolling out energy efficiency products across its own sites added more than €1 million to the company’s net profit for 2013/14.
Kingspan launched an efficiency drive in 2012 with the end goal of becoming a ‘net-zero energy business’, meaning that all of its facilities would be energy neutral on an aggregated basis, by 2020.
This has involved launching major energy performance contracts undertakings at sites in western Europe, Australasia and the UAE. Works have included the installation of rooftop solar and zero energy lighting at its offices in Holywell and Sherburn.
In the 2013/14 financial year energy efficiency measures saved the company more than 15GWh, adding a total of €1 million to the company’s net profit for that financial year.
The figures were revealed in Kingspan’s 2015 sustainability report, which also noted that its Insulated Panels division now derives more than 34% of its energy from renewable sources. This has almost halved the business unit’s carbon emissions for the 2012-2014 reporting period.
“This report is proof of our commitment to educating and enabling the industry to create better buildings. Through a constant focus on research, product innovation and training, our mission is to set new standards for the performance of buildings.
“By applying the very same approach and solutions developed for customers to our own operations, we are reducing our energy bills and our environmental footprint,” said Gilbert McCarthy, divisional managing director at Kingspan Insulated Panels.
