Logan Energy has appointed three new members to its board as it targets green hydrogen expansion.
Former SSE CEO Ian Marchant is to become chair of the board, and will be joined by non-executive directors Bob MacDonald and Derek Mathieson.
Marchant is currently chair of Thames Water, and has been working in the utilities and power generation sector for over 30 years.
“I have felt for some time that hydrogen has the potential to be one of the transforming technologies of the 21st Century and its deployment will be key to achieving a net zero carbon society as soon as possible, particularly in the fields of transport and urban heat,” he said.
“It is exciting to get involved in an established business that’s part of a growing industry and I believe that hydrogen can have as big an impact as North Sea Oil and Gas had in the 1970s or the wind industry had in the early 2000s. I look forward to playing my part.”
MacDonald worked in consultancy for multinational engineering firm Wood for 17 years, focusing on clean energy, automation and digital markets amongst other areas.
Mathieson is the former chief technology and marketing officer for global energy technology company Baker Hughes.
Both expressed their excitement for joining, and pointed to Logan Energy’s 26 years of experience in the hydrogen sector ensuring it is well positioned for growth as “there is a critical opportunity to create a UK powerhouse within the green hydrogen sector,” said Mathieson.
