Statkraft-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging network Mer has signed a new roaming partnership with electric fuel card firm Paua.
As part of this partnership, business drivers using the fuel card will be able to find, charge at and pay for electricity at the 160+ chargers on Mer’s network, supporting Mer’s ambitions of helping to create an open and accessible EV charging network in the UK.
Additionally, Paua’s focus on fleets also feeds into Mer’s UK ambitions, with a goal of supporting businesses to switch to EVs by making the installation of charging infrastructure as easy and cost-effective as possible.
Mer – which was previously known as Gronn Kontakt UK – was acquired by Statkraft in late 2019 as part of a string of EV acquisitions for the Norwegian utility, including German EV charging firm E-Wald and Vattenfall’s UK EV charging business.
It has recently signed roaming partnerships with both All Star and NewMotion in a bid to help ease concerns over range anxiety.
“A core requirement in meeting the demand for EV charging across the UK is going to be roaming agreements, to minimise hassle for both fleet and private motorists,” said Anthony Hinde, Mer UK managing director.
The EV charging network uses zero carbon, 100% renewable energy sources to power its chargers, with the electricity generated solely by wind, solar and hydro sources.
Meanwhile, Paua – which was established by ex-EDF EV lead Niall Riddell – has previously received funding through the Sustainable Innovation Fund managed by Innovate UK to develop capability specifically for fleet public charging. It has also received support from the Department for Transport, which has enabled it to develop the ability to enable plug and charge for all chargepoints.
