Good Energy has renewed a deal with Ørsted for 12% of the output of its Westermost Rough Wind Farm.

The three-year deal is worth up to £50 million, Good Energy said, with the ability for the percentage of the farm’s output going to the supplier set to increase throughout the contract. In the second year it will increase to 17% and 28% in the third year.

The 210MW farm is located five miles off the Yorkshire coast, and joins the 1,500 contracts Good Energy has with renewable generators for its supply.

Good Energy first partnered Ørsted in 2017, with Juliet Davenport, CEO and founder of Good Energy, lauding offshore wind as a “huge British success story”.

“Building on our partnership with Ørsted allows us to continue to build on our ambition to transition to a 100% renewable energy system, empowering more customers to use clean power and ultimately tackle climate change.”

The announcement of the renewal comes as Good Energy releases its annual results, showing its revenues increased by 6.3% in 2019 to £124.3 million, driven by growth in its business supply customers and the domestic price rise in January 2019.

It saw the appointment of Rupert Sanderson as chief financial officer and executive director to the board in January 2020, and recently announced a partnership with EV charging company Engenie. It also launched its own EV charging company – One Point – in 2019, as well as adopting Octopus’ customer service platform Kraken and investing in ZapMap.

Ørsted, meanwhile, has made several moves within the UK's battery storage market. Last year, it completed its first standalone large-scale battery storage project, a 20MW site near Liverpool and announced a battery optimisation project with REMAP earlier this year.

Kyle Worthington, head of power origination at Ørsted, said the company continues to enjoy working with Good Energy, with this extension a “testament to that”.

“It is great to see them raising the standard for what it means to be a 100% renewable energy supplier and we are happy to partner with them on this journey.”
