Heat pump manufacturer, Kensa Heat Pumps is offering free heat pumps to housing associations in the UK.
The model will see Kensa Heat Pumps install and maintain ground source heat pumps on housing association properties for free. In return, Kensa Heat Pumps will generate its revenue from a combination of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and the Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) subsidy.
The heat pump manufacturer says that funding is limited to 500 homes but estimates that the total expected energy savings from the installs could result in savings upwards of £200,000 a year.
Simon Lomax, managing director of The Kensa Group explained that he hoped the offer would help alleviate fuel poverty for recipients. He said: “The increasing focus on the UK’s high levels of fuel poverty highlights a growing need to reduce heating bills. This free offer is expected to halve many tenants’ heating costs and will appeal to landlords too as ground source heat pumps are remarkably reliable and durable.”
Lomax continues: “More significant energy savings are possible when displacing night storage heaters or oil boiler-based systems, so we expect this free offer to be hugely popular with housing providers with stock in off gas areas. The plan is to deliver the heating upgrades throughout the summer so tenants receive the benefits before next winter.”
Lomax added that the housing providers would have full ownership of the heat pumps.
