Zap-Map expands senior team with two appointments

Zap-Map has appointed Richard Bourne as interim CEO as it looks to expand its senior leadership team.

As well as Bourne, who has held previous roles at Stratto, Cisco, Ubiquisys, Ericsson and Marconi, Zap-Map is appointing Alex Earl as commercial director.

He will focus on driving continued growth of new revenues, drawing on his more than 20 years of experience in commercial roles, including work in the EV sector at Alfen and NewMotion.

Juliet Davenport, CEO and founder of Good Energy and chair of Zap-Map, said Bourne and Earl were joining at a "crucial inflection point for the decarbonisation of transport".

“Their experience will help Zap-Map take the next leap in its exciting growth story and reinforce itself as a leading player in the EV market in the UK and beyond."

Zap-Map is part of Good Energy, which holds a 50.1% stake in its parent company Next Green Car. Davenport announced at the beginning of February that she was to step down as CEO of the utility and as chairman of Zap-Map as the company looks to grow as a digital business.

Bourne will now work with Zap-Map’s five person board, consisting of Davenport, Tim Jones, an independent non-executive director from the Good Energy Group plc board, Charlie Parry from Good Energy, alongside the two founders of Zap-Map, with these being Ben Lane, CTO, and Melanie Shufflebotham, COO, to develop the commercial propositions.

Bourne added that he was “delighted” to join the team, and "have the opportunity to accelerate the go-to-market strategy in one of the most exciting companies in the UK".

“As a key enabler in the EV ecosystem helping all EV drivers to seamlessly search for charge points, plan their journeys and easily pay will be a crucial step in the mass adoption of electric vehicles."

Bulb welcomes new VP experience

Utility Bulb has hired an Amazon exec to lead its customer services, expanding it team to more than 1,000 staff.

Adam Koffler is the new VP experience, having previously worked as director of worldwide customer service for the online retail giant. Prior to working at Amazon, Koffler held senior roles at FedEx.

Joe Richardson, UK general manager at Bulb, said the company was focused on “excellent customer experience”, adding that he’s delighted to welcome Koffler.

“He joins at an exciting time as we start the next phase of our growth, launching green products that will help people around the world save money and reduce their carbon emissions.”

Since March 2020, Bulb has hired more than 350 people at all levels, with employees based across the UK, Spain, France and the US. Koffler’s appointment follows a number of senior hires, including Paul Ablin as chief financial officer, Lis Blair as chief marketing and growth officer, Lionel Guicherd-Callin as chief product officer and John Marshall as chief technology officer.

Koffler added: “Bulb's an exciting company changing the energy industry for the better through a relentless focus on innovation and brilliant experience for its members. I’m looking forward to joining and working with Bulb’s talented team to bring green energy to millions more people around the world.”
