New figures for the non-domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) have shown that accredited installations under the scheme fell dramatically in the final quarter of 2015.
The latest data from DECC shows just 991 accreditations were recorded in Q4 compared to 1,701 in the previous three months. December proved to be the worst month, with 253 installations accredited across all technology types.
The figures were also down on the previous year and have defied expectations that the number would increase in the final month of the year before a new tariff rate for small commercial biomass – the most popular technology under the scheme – was introduced on 1 January 2016.
However, this would explain the rise in applications in December, which reached 395 compared to just 174 in November. Despite this small increase, the popularity of the non-domestic RHI has fallen substantially since December 2014 when well over 2,000 applications were made to the scheme.
