IONITY has become the latest electric vehicle (EV) charging network to join Octopus Energy’s Electric Juice Network.
In particular, the addition brings a number of high-powered chargers to the Electric Juice Network, something Octopus said its customers have long requested. IONITY has a number of 350kW ultra-rapid chargers in key motorway service stations across the UK as well as 335 charging locations across 24 countries in Europe.
This is important for EV drivers in the Electric Juice Network that take longer journeys and who will now be able to use IONITY’s Combined Charging System (CCS) stations. They will also receive a 5% discount from Octopus Energy, with all of the company’s chargers in the UK to be powered by 100% renewable energy from Octopus.
CCS is the most widespread charging standard in Europe, and automatically optimises charging power to the maximum a specific vehicle model can handle.
For example, an IONITY ultra-rapid charger could charge a Tesla Model 3 with a 50kWh battery from 20% to 80% in less than ten minutes.
Octopus Energy has celebrated the addition of IONITY, as it opens the door to mainland Europe for the network. The energy company has set up an office in IONITY’s home country Germany.
“IONITY joining is a fantastic milestone and gives Electric Juice Network users more flexibility, opens up easier long-distance travel and begins bringing our mainland Europe charging coverage to life, so I’m thrilled that they’ve joined the Electric Juice Network,” said Zoisa North-Bond, director at Octopus Energy.
The addition of IONITY follows the integration of chargepoint operators Char.gy, Hubsta, Franklin Energy LiFe, Alfa Power, Plug-N-Go and Osprey (formerly Engenie). Back in October 2020, the company celebrated reaching its 1,000 chargepoint milestone, having launched the Electric Juice Network in May.
In the UK, IONITY is currently working with Extra Motorway Services to rollout high-power charging across its motorway service stations, with the partnership between the two first announced in June 2019. This included installing six high-power chargers at the Extra Motorway Services’ area on the M25 in January.
