OVO has today (23 August) launched its Drive + Anytime electric vehicle (EV) tariff across the country.
Following a successful pilot scheme in January, the supplier is now offering its customers a rate of 5p/kWh regardless of the time of day they plug in.
The Drive + Anytime tariff also splits EV charging from home energy use, meaning customers will be credited back for the amount of electricity saved via smart charging every month.
The low rate of the tariff is achieved through Kaluza’s energy platform and smart charging innovation, OVO said, with EV owners able to select via a mobile app when they need their car charged by. Kaluza then uses AI to automatically optimise their car to charge during times of low energy demand, when emissions and prices are also low.
OVO is claiming that the tariff can enable customers to drive their EV for just £100 across the year, based on an EV customer driving the UK average of 7,400 miles at an average of 4mi/kWh and charging 1,850kWh per year using the Anytime rate of 5p/kWh.
“We want to encourage the use of electric vehicles as a carbon-conscious lifestyle choice, and it should be easy and accessible – with the help of Kaluza’s cutting edge technology, our new Drive + Anytime plan embodies that vision perfectly,” said Chris Russell, managing director of OVO Drive.
EV tariffs are now commonly offered by UK energy suppliers, with Good Energy, EDF and ScottishPower among others all launching EV tariffs in the past few years.
