Scottish Renewables has appointed Adam Morrison as its new chair, replacing the outgoing Rob Forrest, who has chaired the organisation since 2018.
Morrison is project director for Moray West Offshore Wind Farm at Ocean Winds – a joint venture between EDF and Engie – and has previously served as a co-opted member of Scottish Renewables’ Board in 2018 before re-joining in 2020.
He said he is “delighted” to work with the Scottish Renewables team, who he described as working “tirelessly”.
He continued to laud Scotland’s “potential as a renewable energy powerhouse”, citing “enormous strides” made in demonstrating what the country can deliver, including the deployment of projects that have “led the way” in cost reduction.
“However there remain significant challenges, including ensuring fair access to the energy market, an efficient planning system and appropriate levels of support for new technologies and infrastructure improvement, which must be addressed if we are to fully realise that potential, meet the net zero imperative and achieve a just energy transition,” he added.
Morrison has two decades of experience across the renewable energy industry, having initially worked in wave and tidal before moving into onshore wind and then offshore wind.
Previous roles include various positions at RES Offshore and head of electrical for engineering and construction of electrical transmission assets at EDP Renewables.
Alongside Morrison, two new directors have also been co-opted onto Scottish Renewables’ Board, with these being Chris Milne, chief financial officer at Orbital Marine Power, and Ronnie Bonnar, independent industry consultant at the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.
Clare Lavelle of Arup has also been co-opted following her term as an elected director, and Pinsent Masons’ Jennifer Ballantyne is continuing in her capacity as a co-opted director.
