Independent energy supplier So Energy has claimed to be the first in the UK to offer its customers the choice of where their energy is supplied from.
So Energy sources its electricity from a range of generators, all of which are listed on its website. It currently receives its power from tidal and hydro projects in Scotland and Wales, as well as a 20MW wind project in Anglesey and three large-scale solar farms in England.
And So Energy, which has been supplying electricity since 2015, wants to take this further by asking its customers which type of renewable electricity they would prefer.
The supplier will then ensure that its reported fuel mix will reflect how customers voted, procuring the required amount of each renewable type.
Charlie Davies, co-founder at So Energy, said: “The most important three things our customers care about are price, service and the environment. Unlike the Big Six, we’ve listened to what our customers want and we’re excited to now provide them with a choice of genuinely affordable renewable energy combined with fantastic service.”
So Energy recently boasted being able to transition to 100% renewable electricity supply without raising prices.
