Statkraft has moved to strengthen its position in Europe’s electric vehicle charging market, acquiring German chargepoint operator E-Wald.
Bavaria-based E-Wald operates around 300 charging stations in Germany, but also leases around 100 fleet EVs to businesses and municipalities, counting approximately 7,000 customers in its base.
Nordic utility Statkraft said the purchase not only strengthened the company’s position in the German power market, but would complement last year’s investment into charging solution start-up eeMobility, also based in Germany.
Statkraft has placed the electric vehicle charging sector firmly in its crosshairs. Having held a long-established shareholding in Norwegian EV charging firm Grønn Kontakt, it has looked to bolster that position by launching into other key growth markets throughout Europe.
Bjørn Holsen, senior VP for new business at Statkraft, said E-Wald was “well placed for growth” within Germany’s fast-charging market, adding that the utility would aim to support E-Wald’s “ambitious growth strategy”.
“This acquisition marks an important milestone in the company’s development and confirms the dedicated team’s ability to build and operate a modern and powerful charging infrastructure,” Otto Loserth, chief executive at E-Wald, said.
