Perovskite solar cells have long been championed as the future of cost-competitive solar, however, there’s always been one catch – peroksvite solar cells require lead which can have harmful effects for both our health and our environment. But engineers at MIT may have come up with a solution – car batteries. Recycled car batteries could provide all the necessary lead to manufacture perovskite solar cells whilst simultaneously removing the need for disposing of the batteries in landfills which can be toxic.
