Western Power Distribution (WPD) is to procure 184MW of demand response services having announced a new flexibility tender.
The DNO is seeking to expand its flexibility offering across 17 ‘Constraint Management Zones’ that have a need throughout 2019/20.
WPD has also signposted ongoing needs out to 2023/24.
This new tender comes as part of WPD’s latest flexibility drive, having announced a tender to procure 93.4MW in March.
Information on the locations of the zones, which months each zone needs flexibility, the MWhs needed each month and the required availability windows are available on the website for WPD’s Flexible Power brand, which is conducting the tender. A postcode checker is also available.
An invitation to tender is to be issued to all registered participants on 12 August 2019, closing on 20 September. The results are to be published on 7 October.
Ben Godfrey, network strategy manager at WPD, said: “This latest round of procurement sees our flexibility requirement grow significantly and now includes parts of Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly.”
Godfrey says the LEM trial is helping the DNO to see how a market platform could help “increase the visibility of flexibility services” and avoid problems that occur when multiple parties use services in the same area.
New zones in need of flexibility are to next be released in January 2020.
