Yü Energy Retail Limited has been appointed to take on the customers of collapsed suppliers Whoop Energy and Xcel Power Limited.
The two announced they were to close on Friday 18 February, becoming the second and third suppliers to collapse this year.
Whoop Energy had 50 domestic and 212 non-domestic electricity and gas customers, while Xcel Power had 274 customer accounts, which were gas only and all non-domestic.
They follow Together Energy, which closed in January and whose customers were taken on by British Gas through the Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) mechanism.
Yü Energy Retail Limited gained an additional 600 domestic and 2,000 non-domestic customers from collapsed supplier Ampower in November 2021 through the SoLR mechanism.
There was a record number of supplier collapses in 2021, with 27 shutting and Bulb entering special administration as high wholesale power prices combined with the price cap to squeeze suppliers.
This included: Zog Energy, Orbit Energy, Entice Energy, Social Energy Supply, Neon Reef, Omni Energy, MA Energy, Zebra Power, Ampoweruk, CNG Energy (electricity and gas), Bluegreen Energy Services, Goto Energy, Pure Planet, Colorado Energy, Daligas, ENSTROGA, Igloo Energy, Symbio Energy, Green Network Energy, Simplicity Energy, Avro Energy, Green Supplier, Utility Point, People’s Energy, PfP Energy, MoneyPlus Energy and Hub Energy.
In 2020, Yü Energy Retail Limited acquired Bristol Energy’s B2B customer book, adding 4,000 meters to its portfolio. It has continued to grow since then, and now supplies 20,000 meter points.
