ABB and Octopus Group are partnering to provide charging infrastructure and renewable energy for bus and commercial fleet operators.
The collaboration brings together Octopus’ financing models and energy supply with ABB’s charging infrastructure and energy technologies, creating a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution in a bid to accelerate electrification.
The companies will also seek to further develop and explore e-mobility market offerings, supporting bus and commercial fleet operators to successfully transition towards zero emissions.
Citing the need to meet government emissions targets and clean city initiatives worldwide, the companies hope that the partnership will help to accelerate EV adoption.
The collaboration is the latest in a series of moves into the EV sphere for Octopus, having announced a partnership with IONITY to create an ultra-rapid UK charging network this week. It also launched Electric Juice, a service providing EV charging networks with renewable power, earlier in the year.
Daniel Saunders, investment director at Octopus, said the collaboration represented investment into ideas, people and enterprises that “change the world”.
“By working with like-minded partners, we increase our ability to innovate and create new offerings to help realize the potential of electrified zero-emission transport and intelligent energy services that benefit society.”
Frank Muehlon, head of ABB’s global EV charging business, said: “We are proud to be working with Octopus and together we will break down the barriers to adoption and accelerate innovation in this critical field.”
