Abellio Greater Anglia has concluded its current programme of energy efficiency upgrades following the completion of electrical and lighting improvements at several rail stations in East Anglia.
Following earlier works at Buckenham and Haddiscoe stations in December 2015, the train operator’s ‘Rewire, Relight’ project has resulted in complete rewiring and every lighting unit replaced with more energy-efficient alternatives at the Alresford, Braintree, Brandon, Spooner Row, Stansted Mountfitchet, Westerfield and Wivenhoe stations.
The work has incorporated LED lighting alongside new variable controls and automatic settings to help reduce electricity consumption as well as reduce the stations’ carbon footprints.
Simon Wilson, programme delivery manager for Abellio Greater Anglia, said: “The Rewire, Relight project is helping to create more energy-efficient stations and, at the same time, improve the station ambience and environment for passengers.”
A spokesperson for Abellio Greater Anglia told Clean Energy News that the company has no plans to carry out similar work at any of our other stations in the near future.
The company was also unable to provide any details of how much it hoped to save in energy costs as a result of the project.
