British Gas has teamed up with the RAC to offer electric vehicle (EV) charger installation as well as a bespoke electricity tariff to vehicle leasing customers.
It follows RACR launching anew EV leasing website, and is designed to make home charging easier and more affordable, driving the adoption of EVs.
The Centrica subsidiary will install Alfen smart 7kW home charging points, with both fixed and removable cable systems available. The Alfen Eve S-Line Untethered can be installed from £659 and Alfen Eve S-Line Tethered from £745 said British Gas, with both coming with a three-year warranty.
Both can be controlled via the Hive app, which allows customers to schedule charging for during cheaper periods such as overnight. British Gas added the ability to manage smart EV charging via the app just last week, as part of a partnership with Alfen.
By partnering with British Gas, RAC customers will also have access to a specially designed overnight tariff. The RAC-e Recharge Electric Car Tariff will charge EVs between 12-5am GMT at 6p per kWh.
Utilising this tariff could save up to £300 on a home electricity bill, with the prices fixed until 20 June 2023. Customers will just need to have a British Gas electric smart meter installed to access the tariff, allowing off-peak charging to be tracked.
“Working in partnership with the RAC allows us to provide a unique proposition for those looking for hassle free motoring,” said Americo Lenza, portfolio director at British Gas. “For the first time, drivers can now combine the vehicle, the charger, the green energy, the servicing and the breakdown cover in one place.
“Supporting customers with cost effective ways to make the change to electric is vital as we transition away from petrol and diesel cars. Once you’ve switched, you’ll never go back.”
