Mail company Deutsche Post DHL Group (DHL) has announced plans to reduce its logistics-related emissions to nothing by 2050 and expand its portfolio of green products and services to help customers achieve their own climate protection targets.
The German company’s new climate protection goal of zero emissions logistics by 2050 applies to both its own activities and those of its transport subcontractors.
It will seek to achieve this ambitious goal through a series of interim milestones to be achieved by 2025 through the group’s environmental protection program, GoGreen.
Globally DHL will increase the carbon efficiency of its own activities and those of its transport providers by 50% compared to the 2007 baseline, while on a local level it will operate 70% of its own first and last mile services with clean pick-up and delivery solutions.
In addition, it plans to ensure more than half of its sales will incorporate green solutions in an attempt to improve its customers’ supply chains, which the group will also train a certify 80% of its employees as GoGreen specialists by 2025.
The new target will build on the firm’s previous climate target – to improve carbon efficiency by 30% over the 2007 baseline – which was achieved in 2016, four years ahead of schedule.
GoGreen is built on two basic principles of ‘burn less’ and ‘burn clean; the first is about reducing energy consumption without changing the energy source while the second focuses on using green energy sources and fuels.
