Leading building material firm Wienerberger has signed up to a renewables tariff from Dong Energy which will supply all of its sites with clean electricity.
The contract follows Wienerberger’s responsible sourcing and carbon footprint reduction commitments, while also allowing its customers to procure materials from a supplier powered by renewables.
Wienerberger said the deal would pose as a significant benefit for its customers and Paul Stevenson, finance director at Wienerberger, confirmed it was just one of a number of steps taken at the firm to reduce its carbon footprint.
“We’re pleased to be working with Dong Energy, a company which shares our values and is passionate about enabling a sustainable future,” he added.
With a large number of major firms committing to renewables and the pursuit of carbon neutrality, more attention has shifted towards the supply chain.
Last year Apple joined The Climate Group’s RE100 initiative and pledged to push the adoption of renewables down its own supply chain, while earlier in 2016 house builder Willmott Dixon said it would also be renewing its efforts to reduce its supply chain emissions.
