UK power provider Ecotricity is to open a new office in Bristol which will become the firm’s new technology hub.
The office is to open early next year and will initially house a new digital development team. The company expects to employ up to 15 people at the office by the end of next year to be led by Dan Goodall, the firm’s technology and transformation director.
Ecotricity said the Bristol team would be task with transforming the experience of its customers, however product development related to carbon footprint management and connected homes is also on the agenda.
Goodall said the move was a bid to tap into digital and technology talent in the wider Bristol and western England areas.
“We’re keen to drive the green agenda in the future of the connected home and the connected city, and Bristol is at the forefront of our thinking,” he added.
Although best known as a clean energy supplier, Ecotricity also manages the Electric Highway EV charging network and is currently trialling a domestic battery storage product that it intends to offer its customers. The firm too acquired bankrupt solar giant SunEdison’s UK interests which it intends to relaunch once PV economics stack up once again.
Ecotricity founder Dale Vince said: “It’s good for us to have a presence in different parts of the country. Bristol is a great place to be – it’s full of talented people and like-minded companies we can collaborate with. We’re very pleased to be moving in.”
