EDF Energy has issued a challenge looking to encourage innovation in four areas of the energy sector, including EVs and artificial intelligence.
The competition will see short-listed start-ups, innovators and entrepreneurs given support and access to EDF’s network over a 12-week period.
Four areas of focus will be explored during the challenge, including electric vehicles, artificial intelligence and improving the lives of customers. A fourth, wildcard option will cover ideas outside of those three scopes.
Short-listed organisations will be given the opportunity to validate their products, as well as trial and test them in live environments. There will also be access to experts and mentoring from senior leaders within EDF.
As part of the challenge, there will be the opportunity for investment from EDF, with a £10,000 cash prize for the overall winner of the challenge.
The challenge is being run by EDF’s innovation accelerator Blue Lab, in partnership with L Marks, and is part of EDF Group’s Pulse Awards.
Jean-Benoit Ritz, director of Innovation and Blue Lab, said: “This challenge offers the most innovative start-ups a unique gateway into the world of energy to help us, jointly, deliver a powerful future for the benefit of society.
“EDF Energy has a strong history of promoting innovation and we want to ensure we continue to gain a fresh perspective by collaborating with an even wider range of young companies.”
Applications for the challenge close on 21 May 2019.
