Sara Vaughan has taken on the role of interim chief executive of Elexon following Mark Bygraves stepping down.
Bygraves held the position of chief executive for seven years, and worked for Elexon for 10 years in total. With Bygraves’ last day as chief executive being Friday 29 October, he is now to focus on opportunities outside of the company.
Vaughan, meanwhile, was previously a non-executive director of Elexon and a former political and regulator affairs director at E.ON UK. She is to be interim chief executive until an enduring replacement is appointed following a formal recruitment process.
Michael Gibbons, chair of Elexon and of the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) Panel, said:
“We would especially like to thank Mark for his huge dedication to Elexon, and the energy he has brought to the role.
“Mark maintained a firm grip on the many policy and operational issues that we manage, and he built good relationships with so many of our stakeholders, including the BSC Panel.”
It was during Bygraves’ tenure that Elexon established settlement for Contracts for Difference generators and the Capacity Market regime, which it continues to deliver.
Alongside this, in April 2021, Ofgem appointed Elexon to facilitate the industry-led programme to deliver market-wide half hourly settlement. The company said these examples – among others – demonstrates how Elexon has established itself as more than a code administrator.
