French energy major Engie has become the latest utility to bolster its domestic solar offering with a new battery storage product.
Engie has partnered with Germany’s sonnen to offer customers in France residential battery storage installations under the residential ‘My Power’ solar solution it launched in France last year.
The product currently remains on offer solely in France, a country in which Engie has around four million private and professional electricity customers. It remains to be seen whether or not Engie has plans to expand this service into other markets such as the UK, where it sits just outside of the so-called ‘Big Six’.
Engie is also offering financing solutions alongside the solar and storage solutions. Solar and a sonnen battery is available at €109 per month for ten years, including support and administrative procedures conducted by Engie.
The company said it aimed to use the batteries to bolster self-sufficiency rates of solar-powered French homes to as high as 96% in certain configurations, indicating that “no comparable flexible offer” existed in the country.
In launching with a storage product Engie is following in the footsteps of its European rivals E.On and EDF, both of which have launched solar-plus-storage solutions for the domestic market in recent times. So too has auto manufacturer Nissan, and alternative suppliers like Ovo.
