Zap-Map has signed up a second electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint operator – ESB Energy – to its Zap-Pay service.
Zap-Pay was launched in September 2020 with the intention of making paying for charging simpler by allowing drivers to use a single app to pay across different networks. With the addition of Zap-Pay, Zap-Map now offers the ability to search, plan and pay all in one app.
More networks are to be added this year, according to Zap-Map.
Niall Hogan, head of EV solutions at ESB Energy, said the partnership will help to make EV drivers’ lives easier and ensure the customer experience “is simple and straightforward”.
The Irish company currently operates 1,100 chargepoints in Ireland as well as 145 rapid chargers in Coventry and London, having entered the UK market in 2017. It also has a partnership with Birmingham City Council for the installation of almost 200 chargers.
Melanie Shufflebotham, co-founder and chief operating officer of Zap-Map, said we need to make paying for charging “as simple as possible” as EV use becomes more mainstream.
“The rollout of Zap-Pay meets this challenge head-on. Today’s news is another step towards comprehensive coverage across the country.”
In 2020, Good Energy increased its stake in Zap-Map to 50.1%, announcing the two would be working on developing and rolling out new products and services including Zap-Pay as well as a comprehensive data insights platform and increased in-car functionality.
This followed Zap-Map adding voice command functionality through Google Assistant, which suggests chargepoints, gives status updates and provides navigation.
