The proposed smart grid-focused joint venture between Siemens and German energy company Allgäuer Überlandwerk (AUW) can now go ahead after receiving European Commission approval.
Siemens announced the JV in February this year, confirming that it would take a 49% stake in AUW’s egrid applications and consulting subsidiary having worked with the firm on a number of decentralised smart grid projects in Germany.
The formation of the JV was subject to approval by the European Commission’s competition authority, however it can now proceed after the EC determined that it would raise no concerns due to its “limited activities”.
Egrid is to offer consultancy services regarding decentralised electricity networks primarily in Germany, but also across Europe.
