Clean energy utility Good Energy is to install its first battery storage project for long-time partner the Eden Project.
The install will mark the first foray into battery storage for Good since it placed the technology chief amongst its new strategy earlier this year.
The firm will install five 50kW battery storage units within Eden Project’s premises. The “fridge-sized” units will be connected to a control centre, allowing it to store electricity generated through its on-site renewables.
The system is due to be installed next summer and Randall Bowen, director of business services at Good Energy, described storage as a “major breakthrough” in reducing reliance on the grid.
The Eden Project is already a fully-fledged customer of Good Energy’s and is among its business clients signed up to Selectricity, the local renewable energy scheme which allows businesses to select the specific generators that supply them.
Peter Wroe, finance director at Eden Project, said that the two had developed a “strong and mutually beneficial partnership” in energy over the years.
“Eden is an educational charity so we are pleased to be showcasing this battery storage technology, building on our work with Good Energy on the groundbreaking Selectricity project. This is part of Eden’s ongoing efforts to demonstrate innovative and sustainable solutions to energy issues,” he said.
