Sustainable energy business GRIDSERVE and motorway services Moto have confirmed the opening of two new Electric Super Hubs to EV drivers in the North East.
The Electric Super Hubs contain six 350kW-capable high power EV chargers each and are powered by 100% renewable energy sourced from GRIDSERVE’s hybrid solar and battery farms. With the opening of two further hubs, Moto now has 142 high power EV charging at 18 locations across the UK.
GRIDSERVE confirmed that the two Electric Super Hubs are situated at Moto Washington North and South on the A1(M).
“We are thrilled to open our next Electric Super Hubs at both Washington North and Southbound. As the demand for electric vehicles and charging increases, it is vital we continue this pace to roll out the installation of High Power chargers to support EV drivers and those making the switch to electric,” said Toddington Harper, CEO of GRIDSERVE.
“We look forward to continuing our expansion and installing hundreds more High Power chargers across the network.”
GRIDSERVE has been expanding its Electric Highway network in a bid to bolster EV charging facilities and remove the “range anxiety” associated with EVs. The network now is established across over 160 locations.
The company opened Electric Forecourts in Norwich and Braintree last year with a third due at Gatwick Airport in 2023.
2022 was a strong year for ultra-rapid charger installations, according to Zap-Map data. The number of ultra-rapid chargers grew from 1,290 at the end of 2021 to 2,295 at the end of 2022 – an increase that bodes well for the forthcoming transition to EVs in the coming years.
“As the largest UK Motorway Services Operator, we are continuing our mission to transform the UK’s rest stop experience and reducing range anxiety by revolutionising the EV charging experience for motorists on motorways is at the heart of our plans,” said Moto chief executive, Ken McMeikan.
“We’re delighted to be able to continue our roll-out of the High Power charging Hubs and we will be opening many more hubs at our Motorway Service Areas across the country throughout the remainder of this year.”
