Iberdrola has signed a new strategic agreement that will see drivers of Mercedes-Benz’s new EV range take advantage of Iberdrola’s mobility solution in Spain.
As part of the three-year strategic agreement Iberdrola will supply and install home charge points for all customers of Mercedes-Benz’s new EQ range in a fixed-rate package.
Iberdrola will also facilitate access to its public charging network, as well as free charging for six months. Homeowners will be able to charge from 100% renewable energy, certified with a Guarantee of Origin, Iberdrola said.
The agreement comes as part of Iberdrola’s ambitions for promoting and leading the transition to sustainable mobility.
ScottishPower, which is owned by Iberdrola, launched a similar EV charging solution in the UK in 2018 which offers consumers an electric vehicle, installation of a Wallbox charger and a 100% renewable electricity tariff as a singular package.
Iberdrola took a stake in Wallbox in June as part of the EV charging manufacturer’s €15 million (£13.2 million) fundraise.
Ángeles Santamaría, CEO of Iberdrola España, said the agreement with Mercedes-Benz emphasises the importance of “working together with all the players involved in sustainable mobility”, adding that electrification of transport “will make a decisive contribution in the fight against climate change”.
The two companies are also set to work together to “continue pushing forward” the roll out of the public charging network in Spain.
The Spanish energy giant is rolling out a Sustainable Mobility Plan that aims to deploy 25,000 EV charging stations in Spain by 2021 and recently signed up for the EV100 initiative, committing to electrify its own fleet.
Roland Schell, president of Mercedes-Benz España, said: “Our objective is to support the transition from the internal combustion engine to the electric vehicle by facilitating the installation of recharging points during the sales process.
“The signing of this agreement will allow Iberdrola and Mercedes-Benz España to combine their common interests to build solid foundations for a successful and strategically strong cooperation with a view to a sustainable future.”
