NewMotion is to offer customers in Europe of fleet management company LeasePlan electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions for at home, the workplace and on the road.
The Shell-owned company has been chosen as LeasePlan’s preferred charging partner for Europe, and as such it is to offer LeasePlan customers the installation of chargepoints, back-office technology for controlling the chargepoints and a charge card to access public chargers.
This will be the LeasePlan co-branded charge card and app, which is powered by NewMotion and provides access to its public chargepoints across 35 countries.
LeasePlan customers will also be able to access online tools providing real-time information on availability, as well as the charging speeds of public chargepoints. Additionally, lease drivers will be automatically reimbursed for the entire cost of all charging sessions with NewMotion.
The first phase of the rollout will see LeasePlan customers in the UK, Germany, Norway and Sweden get access to NewMotion’s charging technology, before this is then expanded to other European markets.
“Over the past ten years, we have seen more and more people switching to EVs, along with an increased interest from companies to facilitate this,” said Melanie Lane, CEO at NewMotion.
“To make the transition seamless for both businesses and their employees, companies need a smart charging ecosystem that helps them to monitor and control their charging.”
Indeed, a survey by the EV charging firm in May revealed that smart charging is an important element in increasing uptake, with one in six UK drivers agreeing it is key to encouraging further adoption.
The survey came after NewMotion celebrated reaching 200,000 chargepoints across its network in March. It recently signed a new roaming agreement with Mer, adding to the significant number it has signed in recent years.
