Statkraft-owned EV charging network operator Mer has signed a new roaming deal with Octopus Electric Juice.
Users of Octopus Electric Juice now have access to the 160+ electric vehicle (EV) charging points operated by Mer nationwide through either the Electric Juice app or RFID card.
This helps to simplify payments, with the cost of the charge going on drivers’ monthly home energy bills. Other charging networks signed up to Octopus Electric Juice include NewMotion, IONITY, Char.gy, Hubsta, Alfa Power, Franklin Energy LiFe, Plug-N-Go and Osprey.
It follows Mer also signing roaming agreements with NewMotion and Paua earlier this year.
The company is focused on installing EV chargepoints into high-usage, high-footfall locations such as workplaces, public places, car parks and residential areas where drivers don’t have access to off-street parking.
Mer UK managing director, Anthony Hinde, said: “The easier and simpler we can make it for people to charge their EVs – and that involves both access to a wide variety of networks and having charging infrastructure in a wider variety of locations – the more confidence people will have in this technology. “
Both Mer and Octopus have committed to using only 100% renewable energy sources, with the addition of Mer to Electric Juice meaning drivers have more green options when it comes to recharging, the companies said.
Octopus Electric Juice launched in May 2020 to address the issue of interoperability between public charging networks. This latest announcement is a “great step in the right direction” to offering Electric Juice users greater flexibility and coverage, Zoisa North-Bond, CEO of Electric Juice, said.
