Reactive Technologies has received an investment from global professional services firm Accenture to help accelerate the commercialisation of grid data for utilities.
The investment was made through Accenture Ventures, with the two companies having now formed a strategic alliance. This gives Reactive access to Project Spotlight, a “deeply immersive” engagement and investment programme targeting emerging technology software businesses.
It offers access to Accenture’s domain expertise and its enterprise clients, with Reactive to co-innovate with Accenture and its clients at Innovation Hubs, Labs and Liquid Studios, working with subject matter experts to bring solutions to market more quickly and more effectively.
Reactive currently offers measurement, real-time analytics and data services to provide greater visibility over network conditions to help grid operators and other energy market players accurately balance the grid and manage inertia.
Last week, it announced it has contracted Spanish technology group Ingeteam to construct a 5MW ultracapacitor to help National Grid ESO accurately measure inertia.
This ultracapacitor will directly measure inertia by sending pulses of power through the grid, which is recorded by Reactive’s measurement devices and processed by the GridMetrix cloud platform.
Marc Borrett, CEO of Reactive Technologies, said that working with Accenture will “help us to operate on a global basis with a local presence” and will support its offering with “their full suite of technical and commercial delivery capabilities”.
“Through unique measurement technologies, the fundamental challenges of managing grid stability with ever increasing amounts of renewable energy being deployed can now be solved,” he said.
