Renewable energy utilities Ecotricity and Good Energy have topped a consumer poll carried out by Which? magazine to determine the best and worst utilities in the UK.
Ecotricity and Good Energy received customer scores of 84% and 82% respectively, placing them first and second of the 18 utilities put to the test. In comparison the Big Six utilities ranked in the bottom half of the table and made up the bottom four, npower in particular fared poorly with just a 35% consumer score.
Utilities were scored on customer service, value for money, the accuracy and clarity of bills, complaint procedures and effort placed into helping consumers save energy. Ecotricity received top marks in all categories bar value for money, while Good Energy scored well in customer service and energy saving measures.
Ecotricity was also highly recommended by Which? as a utility which came close to achieving Which? Recommended Provider status, which at the moment is granted only to OVO Energy.
