RWE has assembled a team of six industry stalwarts to leads its renewables business ahead of its planned deal with E.On.
That deal, announced last year, will see both innogy and E.ON’s large-scale renewables activities combined with RWE’s in a deal which will see the German power giant become of the world’s largest renewables players with a portfolio of 8.6GW.
In addition, RWE intends to invest around €1.5 billion (£1.32 billion) each year in a bid to “drive forward” the group’s energy transformation.
RWE has now confirmed that its renewables unit will be headed up by Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath, who currently serves as the chief executive of E.On’s climate and renewables team.
The six-strong board includes RWE and innogy staff members with more than 120 years of experience in Europe’s energy markets combined.
Dotzenrath will be joined on the board by CFO designate Holger Himmel, currently CFO for renewables at innogy; CCO Tom Glover, currently CCO at RWE Generation and RWE Supply & Trading; Sven Utermöhlen, who will serve as global offshore wind COO; Silvia Ortín Rios, who will take up the role of onshore wind and solar PV Americas COO; and Katja Wünschel, who will become the group’s onshore wind and solar PV COO for Europe and Asia-Pacific regions.
Markus Krebber, CFO at RWE, said the firm was creating a “globally leading renewables business” that it wanted to expand further.
“We will achieve that with a diversified renewable technology portfolio and an integrated value chain. We have set the stage for this.”
That development is to be focused on three core technologies, chiefly both onshore and offshore wind and solar PV, and will pursue development, engineering, construction, operation and commercialisation activities in these fields.
The management team is to assume control of the newly-created division when the transaction is completed which is still expected to complete by the end of 2019.
