Shell Energy has been appointed by Ofgem to take on the customers of Goto Energy following the announcement of its closure earlier this week.
Goto became the latest in a string of suppliers to cease trading amid a challenging period as a result of the soaring gas prices.
As a result, Shell Energy is to take on Goto’s 22,000 domestic customers. Funds that current and former domestic customers of Goto have paid into their accounts will be protected if they are in credit.
Shell Energy was also appointed as the Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) for Pure Planet, Daligas and Colorado Energy’s customers, with the three being the most recent suppliers to collapse prior to Goto.
Other suppliers to go under this year include ENSTROGA, Igloo Energy, Symbio Energy, Avro Energy, Green Supplier Limited, People’s Energy, Utility Point, PfP Energy and MoneyPlus Energy.
E.ON Next was appointed the SoLR for ENSTROGA, Igloo Energy and Symbio Energy and Octopus Energy was appointed the SoLR for Avro Energy.
Meanwhile, Omni Energy recently began to automatically switch customers to rival energy suppliers after expressing concern that it is set to cease trading soon. However, it then stopped this switching following intervention by Ofgem, with automatic switching without express consent being a breach of licence conditions.
