Shell Recharge Solutions, previously NewMotion, has hit a new milestone with more than 10,000 public chargers available on its network in the UK.
The company said that electric vehicle (EV) public charging points in the UK have increased 37% over the past year to reach more than 29,000, of which Shell Recharge Solutions covers a third of it.
Euan Moir, sales manager UK from Shell Recharge Solutions said: “Interoperability between the public charge points installed by different companies is key for the future of the EV industry and to enhance the customer experience. We have worked hard to get agreements in place with 21 roaming partners in the UK, who between them have 10,000 public charge points.”
Within this, Shell Recharge Solutions offers access to more than 1,500 rapid chargers in the UK. ubitricity, a charge point operator bought by Shell in 2021, currently offers 4,500 on-street charge points in the UK.
The company’s European network offers more than 300,000 charge points, and Shell is aiming to operate 500,000 charge points globally by 2025.
Recent research from New AutoMotive has predicted that more than 300,000 battery EVs will be sold this year in the UK, doubling last year’s numbers and representing 15% of total sales of vehicles.
With the increase of sales of EV’s in the coming years, Moir added the company is determined to overcome the barriers to making the switch to an electric car by “making it as easy as possible for drivers to charge up with one card or app.”
