Statkraft continues European EV charging activity, taking full control of Norwegian charging company Grønn Kontakt.
Statkraft has acquired Agder Energi’s 47.5% sake in Grønn Kontakt, taking full ownership of the company. The acquisition strengthens Grønn Kontakt in the Nordics and positions Statkraft for “further growth” in the European charging market, Statkraft said.
The Nordic utility has been a co-owner of Grønn Kontakt since 2012. The acquisition of Agder Energi’s shareholding takes Statkraft’s shareholdings to close to 96%. The remaining shareholders are to be offered to sell their shares, it said.
Christian Rynning-Tønnesen, president and CEO of Statkraft, said: “Electric vehicles will change the power industry in Europe, and to achieve an emission free transport sector, renewable energy must be used to charge electric vehicles.
“It is time to further develop Norway’s and Grønn Kontakt’s strong position, and to use our expertise and our competitive advantage to drive the electrification of the transport sector forward.”
Statkraft has already strengthened its position in the European charging market by acquiring German charging firms E-Wald and eeMobilitiy.
It acquired E-Wald, which operates around 300 charge points in Germany and leases around 100 fleet EVs to businesses and municipalities, in August.
It is also evaluating activities in the UK, it said. The utility has been relatively active in the UK market in recent months, acquiring onshore wind developer Airvolution Clean Energy and securing an aggregated corporate power purchase agreement with 20 UK universities.
