UK Power Networks (UKPN) has moved into what it has dubbed its most energy efficient office ever.
The DNO has taken up residence at Borehamwood Studios, where there are solar panels on the roof and ten electric vehicle (EV) charging points. Additionally, it was built using the latest energy efficient technology, and is estimated to save 20 tonnes of carbon per year.
After two decades in its offices near Potters Bar, London, the company has now signed a new lease with facilities developer Panattoni for the new, more sustainable base.
Tony Watkins, development director at Panattoni, said the company was glad to welcome their first tenant, adding that it is great to see the site take shape with UKPN.
“The unit benefits from a number of sustainability enhancements, including 7.2kW fast charging points in the car park, a solar array system on the roof, along with internal and external LED lighting. Inside the 19,000 square foot warehouse it benefits from 10% roof lighting throughout, so there is plenty of natural light within the space. It’s great to see companies leading on the sustainable agenda.”
UKPN is one of the key players in the country’s transition to a greener energy network, tendering for flexibility, facilitating EV adoption and supporting heat decarbonisation. The new office provides the company with a way to lead by example.
Cliff Couch, head of facilities services, said: “This is a key long-term investment for us and we are looking forward to finishing fitting out the brand new building as a light bright space for our staff to work in, so that they can operate efficiently and continue to deliver great service. We are committed to ensuring that the working environment supports business requirements at all times.”
