Zenobe has partnered Supercharge to build a charging system that can simultaneously charge a fleet of 16 electric buses.
In order to achieve this, a stationary battery asset is situated at the bus depot, with this charged while the buses are out during the day.
The system – built by Supercharge – balances the utilisation of both the battery and the national grid to maximise grid usage without overstressing it, while also using as little energy as possible from the battery.
The software also provides data on each of the vehicles, their routes and their drivers. Operators are able to give feedback to drivers, with the software allowing them to educate drivers so they are more energy conscious in their driving.
In November 2020, Zenobe secured a £150 million investment from Infrascapital, the infrastructure equity investment arm of M&G, allowing it to target an additional 500MWh of storage and 1,000 electric buses.
The company launched its end-to-end solution for the electrification of buses in May 2019, providing financing for charging infrastructure, stationary battery storage located in the depot for overcoming grid constraints, batteries on the vehicles and the vehicles themselves.
