The smart meter installation rate dipped below 200,000 in August, ending a five-month run.
Installations had remained over 200,000 since March, however August saw 189,000 smart meter installations according to data from Electralink. While this was 3% more than August 2020, it was almost 16% less than July 2021.
So far this year, there have been 1.6 million installations and over 16.3 million since the rollout began in 2012.
Regional distribution of smart meter installs remained largely the same in August, Electralink said, with there being 26,000 installs in East England, 21,000 in Southern England and 18,000 in the East Midlands.
Meanwhile, South Scotland became the ninth region to pass 1 million cumulative installations.
The Data Communications Company (DCC) said in August that the smart meter network in Britain had doubled over the previous 12 months, with 6.7 million smart meters connected to its network in 2020/21.
Daily rates of installation had virtually returned to pre-pandemic levels by the beginning of the second lockdown, the DCC said, despite the disruption caused by the first COVID-19 lockdown, when installations were paused for three months.
